CUSTOM SIGN CUT LETTERING

Hand Made Wood Lettering Options

- BACK TO VICTORIAN MAIN SIGNS PAGE -

NOTE:  - I can produce cut lettering in virtually any size up to about 30 inches tall per letter.   This is a very handy and affordable option for making large signs.  I am listing the lettering designs that I have here and use on a regular basis.  I can also produce lettering from any font that you have and like, and in some cases can even duplicate your business logo from cut wood to match.

Thickness and material will depend on your size needs and application...ie painting vs. staining.  Pricing - plan on approximately $1 per inch.  For example a six inch high letter or number would run about $6.00 ea.  Over 6 inches tall it goes up to $1.50-$2.00 per inch due to thickness of wood needed.  For letters that will end up being painted I use a smooth manufactured wood.  For letters that will end up being stained dark, I use a layered grained material such as birch.  All lettering is shipped sanded and ready to either stain or paint .  To give you a further example of  cut lettering that reads  "SMITH CONSTRUCTION"  in say 6 inch lettering for mounting on a board would be 17 letters at $6 per letter = $102.00. ....please call to order.

You can use any font, just type it out as you want and email to me, I then blow it up to the size you want and cut it

IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ

Cut wood lettering makes a striking statement and so much better than cheap vinyl.  While the lettering can be mounted directly on a wall or building, the letters can also be mounted on any board that you purchase from a lumber yard.  HINT: don't dismiss old recycled boards as they often make beautiful sign boards.

Custom Fonts:  If you have a font that you really like, just type it out in your word processor ie

 "Jones Bakery"

 or

" Country Inn Bed & Breakfast"

then cut and paste it into an email for me.  I then blow it up to your size and cut it out.  Please send at about 40 point. EMAIL

Size:  Prior to deciding on the size of your letters, first measure the area you are working with.  Remember to leave room for white space around the lettering so it doesn't look crowded.  Then divide the area by the number of letters and you will know how big your letters can be.  You always fit the letters to the available space.  For example.  You have an area 100 inches long.  You need 10 letters.  Allowing for white space figure about 7-8 inch tall  letters.  That will allow you white space at the front and back and in between the letters.  Another consideration if your space is tight is the letter itself.  For example...the letter W is wider than the letter I.   Letters are made to height, not width.

Painting:   First use primer, allow to dry then paint your color.  Staining:  use a dark stain.  The mahogany that I use will take a dark stain, but not a light colored stain.  If you need something special that will take a light colored stain, call me and we will come up with some options.

Really Custom Every once in a while I receive a call where the customer needs really high end lettering.   Usually a corporate office.   For example solid 3/4 inch thick Bolivian Rosewood.  Yes I can do it.  It isn't cheap.  Some of these high end exotic woods are as much as $10 or more a running foot.....but the results are indeed striking.   These woods are not stained or painted, just oiled.  Walnut, cherry, maple as well as exotics are available.    Just give me a call.

Here is a great example of using cut lettering to produce a nice sign.  Lettering is about 5 inches high and just painted and mounted on a board.
